Jonathan Bland grew up on Solomons Island, Maryland, and started fishing about the same time he was learning to walk. His passion for the sport has only continued to grow since then. After graduating college with an Environmental Studies degree he spent two summers in Grand Teton National Park as a fly fishing guide on the Snake River. Missing all the diversity in fish species to target he returned to Maryland, and began working for an environmental restoration company that specializes in improving the waterways and headwaters of the Chesapeake Bay. He enjoys targeting the variety of species the Chesapeake Bay offers throughout the year. Based out of Annapolis, there are many great fishing opportunities usually within a short drive. He guides from a Jones Brothers Cape Fisherman which is well equipped with all the latest electronics and gadgets. It's truly a perfect boat for light tackle and fly fishing on the Bay. As a guide, he gets a lot of joy out of watching people pick up the sport and is always happy to teach a new angler. He focuses on providing engaging trips that showcase just how special the Chesapeake Bay is, and why we as anglers should respect and care for it.
Bay Bound Guide Service specializes in light tackle and fly fishing trips. These trips allow the angler to be constantly engaged throughout the day and take pride in actually catching the fish themselves regardless of their skill level. Each angler will be provided rods, and fishing tackle. Captain Jonathan works hard throughout the day to put you in the best scenarios to catch, which sometimes requires covering lots of water and getting to see many different parts of the Bay or it's rivers. Located in Annapolis, Maryland there are many different launch locations within a short drive of our state's capital, which gives many opportunities to target a range of species throughout the year. You can choose either to book a half day (5hrs) or full day (8hrs) trip.
Half Day Rate: $550
Full Day Rate: $750
These trips will focus on catching tidal Chain Pickerel. Throughout the winter months when most fishing has slowed down, Chain Pickerel are hot on the prowl in the tributaries of the Chesapeake Bay. Their large appetites and boat side strikes provide lots of action for folks who aren’t afraid of the cold. They are a blast to catch on light rods and double digit days are common even throughout the coldest time of the year. Yellow perch are also found in similar locations as Pickerel and can be targeted during these trips too. Their beautiful color patterns make them a popular panfish.
Available for up to two fly anglers or three spin fishers.
Quite fun for anyone into fly fishing!
Available anytime the season is open, (contact Jonathan for dates) these trips will focus on targeting Maryland’s state fish, the Striped Bass. These fish can be caught using a variety of light tackle methods which makes for an excitement filled day - from top water and grass flats to deep water jigging. Rockfish are often found in the summer through late fall schooled up or blitzing on the surface; a great visual show along with consistent catching throughout the day.
Available for two to three anglers.
During the heat of the summer, Spanish Mackerel and Bluefish make their way up the Bay and are often found blitzing or even jumping fully out of water. These fast paced trips will focus on chasing these fish around and making quick casts into breaking fish. It’s exciting and constant action for all skillsets and ages. When fishing is GOOD you almost get tired of catching these toothy speedsters!
Available for two to three anglers.
One of the most delicious and plentiful fish in the Bay has to be the White Perch. These trips are perfect for someone wanting to get their kids into fishing. They are a joy to catch on light rods and provide unlimited fun. We will use a variety of small artificial baits to catch them, but if preferred, we can also use live bait. Great for beginners, but also just plain fun for all.
Available for two to three anglers.
In the early 70's Blue Catfish were introduced to a few tributaries of the Bay, where they quickly traveled and made home to all of it's tributaries and it's Northern Expanse. Today they are well established around Annapolis and studies have show they consume lots of small finfish and crustaceans - good thing these fish fight hard and are delicious! Throughout March and April we target these fish on cut bait around the Annapolis area. We usually catch coolers full and you can feel good about bringing home as much as we can catch. It's not uncommon to boat fish +35"!
Available for two to three anglers.
